The course is supposed to give a specific view at emerging markets emphasizing an ownership and capital approaches. As an example of an emerging market the Czech economy will serve and both an overview and a detailed picture of the privatization process and foreign capital flows will be examined. Economic policy issues will be stressed.
Content :
Privatization and international capital flows will be discussed in a general frame of global privatization and foreign investments and in particular the Czech economy example will be used. Concerning Czech approach and circumstances the relation of Czech privatization and Czech Transformation Reform and the capital situation of the Czech economy will be examined. Special attention will be given to specific methods (Voucher Privatization) used in the Czech privatization scheme and also ownership consequences of processes which followed these methods will be studied. Basic concepts in foreign investment will be confronted through mapping the present situation in selected real cases at a company level. The Czech Republic is one of the most successful target emerging markets for the FDI. Therefore attitudes of the government and the influence of its economic policy including packages of investment incentives will be discussed. The investment incentives will be examined also within a global frame and within the role played in decision-making of investors. Participants will prepare a group seminar paper with the topic "Information for Foreign Investors," reflecting experiences derived from the cases.

In this fields she reads courses in English under the CEMS.
How to
Obtain Credits:
Your grades in this course will be based on the total points
earned. There will be two written exams given, they will be based
on both lectures and readings. Beside that you will prepare a
group project in a written form and you will present it in the
second half of the semester. Any unexpected absence at an exam or
at the presentation of your group project will result into an F.
The course will be graded as follows:
First exam 20% in the 5th week Second exam 20% in the 9th week Group project 50% Participation in class 10% ---- 100%
Project evaluation:
Individual share in the group work 50%
Presentation of the paper 50%
Grading:
90 - 100 A (Excellent) 80 - 89 B (Very Good) 70 - 79 C (Average) 60 - 69 D (Below Average) 0 - 59 F (Failure)
